How’s 2013 treating you so far? Are you feeling miserable (but musically inclined)? Perhaps you’re exhausted after a long (but profitable) unexpected journey. Or frustrated by the need for parental guidance to watch any of our R-rated films. Whatever your mood; there was a movie this weekend determined to match it (despite the fact that the first week in January is typically a slow one at the movies). For those with anger issues, Leatherface returned in Texas Massacre 3D, literally slaying those in his path and landing at the #1 spot at the box office with $23 million. Django (was relieved to be) Unchained once again at #2 with $20.8 million. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey fell from its fantasy-driven perch to the #3 spot with $17.5 million. Les Miserable sang a tune to the downtrodden, coming in at #4 with $16 million. Finally, Parental Guidance spoke to the child within us all from the #5 position with $10.1 million.
Much like that innocent child searching for seashells along the seashore, movies create memories and the feelings they inspire are often bigger than what appears on that widescreen wonder.
From seaside days to starry movie nights, hope you’re feelin’ the love at the local Cineplex!
