New Films Fill an Otherwise Empty Month

French novelist Sidonie Gabrielle once said, “January, month of empty pockets! let us endure this evil month, anxious as a theatrical producer’s forehead.” Okay, so January is predictably a slow “theatrical” month, a time when Oscar hopefuls and holiday blockbusters have long since had their day. In spite of this, there are a few brave souls venturing into the movie arena this weekend worth checking out. Music continues to fill the air as a Quartet of films and their stars have come out to play. The long-awaited Gangster Squad plans on taking no prisoners (who aren’t moviegoers) while A Haunted House and Struck by Lightening are aiming at scaring up their own enthusiastic audience. How will they measure up to last week’s competition, you may ask?

Can the musically-inspired Quartet stand in harmony alongside Les Miserable? Is the Gangster Squad tougher than Jack Reacher? Can Bilbo Baggins journey father than the Texas-loving Leatherface?

These compelling questions rest in those empty pockets to be revealed in due (movie) time.

Until then, wishing you your fill of big screen entertainment from seaside days to starry movie nights!
