Rising from the (Movie) Dead

It’s a slow weekend in the land of nationwide movie releases, with the exception of the “Evil Dead” among us, who consist of five friends coexisting, and I use the term loosely, in a creepy remote cabin…need I say more? Fortunately, vengeance for slow movie weekends has been found, thanks to our hostile hero, “G.I. Joe:” and his “Retaliation” against anyone who has ever looked cross-eyed at him. Will he accept any other place at the box office than #1? Possessing more soothing dispositions and family-friendly values are “The Croods,” who want nothing more than a calm world and clear, box-office sailing. Will they be seeking retribution for tepid ticket sales? “Oz” continues to be “Great and Powerful” while Tyler Perry offers “Temptation” from marital woes and box-office sin. “Olympus Has Fallen,” but how far?

Will last week’s eclectic Top Five at the Box Office give a repeat performance? Does the “Evil Dead” have a shot in Hell at traveling along a more lively trail than the yellow brick road, rising above the color created by “The Croods” or doling out more justice than the Joe’s? Who could avoid all that “Temptation?”

From seaside days to starry nights, may your weekend come equipped with its own benevolent light and supernatural star power…
