A Blue Weekend

Will the “Wolverine” continue to rise through the hairy, scary movie ranks? Can “The Conjuring” conjure up even more movie enthusiasm? With summer under the stars in full swing, perhaps moviegoers are wishing for a little more shade added to an already vibrant screen. If so, they need look no farther than the bluest gang in town, as “The Smurfs 2” make their red-carpet debut. Our fair landscape has “scene” every color of the rainbow lately at “Turbo” velocity (which, ironically, turned out to be quit slow according to the box-office contingent), as animation aims for an audience filled with kids and “Grown Ups 2.” “Despicable Me 2” miss out on all the fun!
Those looking for more excitement along with immunity from blockbuster disappointments, fear not, Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg are back with “2 Guns” blazing, ready to take on the razor-handed, the horror seekers, indie sleepers and blue-based beauties now appearing on the big screen.
“The Spectacular Now,” a.k.a. the dwindling days of the summer of 2013, promise teen angst, trips of the terrifying kind (with a quick visit to the ‘90s), live action, laugh-out-loud comedies, corpses and cartoonish cuties. Now is THE most spectacular movie time!
From seaside days to starry nights, our summer stars, thankfully, show no signs of riding off into the sunset …
