A Chapter 2 Frightening for the Entire Family

Currently being read at our local movie theaters is an “Insidious Chapter 2” terrifying to miss as “The Family” with frights of their own, led by superstars Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer, has arrived, ready to duke it out, in the dark naturally, with last week’s box-office champ, the crime-busting “Riddick.” Their weapon of choice? Comedy, of course, which has been making a killing lately, in both English and Spanish. “Instructions Not Included” for the competition, unfortunately, who will need to find their own cinematic way. “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” who may be lacking in humor but remains politically and entertainingly perfect in his polished ways, continues to follow his own path to a distinguished spot at the box office. “We’re the Millers” persist in calling themselves an actual family without the need for the folks at the Witness Protection Plan.
As our civil rights saga continues to hold a commanding platform, other voices are growing dimmer (the British boys singing in “One Direction: while declaring This is Us” come to mind). As seasons change and the stage welcomes new performers, who will be left out in the starless cold? Will the mafia trump the Millers? Will Pitch Black ever see the light of day? Will the “Planes” leave enough landing room for the upcoming animated “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2?” No worries, the sun will continue to shine through the occasional, ominous clouds (a.k.a. box-office bombs).
From seaside days to starry movie nights, the end of summer promises the beginning of cloud-free, award-worthy entertainment…
