A Post-Christmas Present

Now that the presents have been unwrapped (and in some cases returned), we can get down to the big business of blockbuster movies. Will our arrogant “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” maintain his legendary spot at the domestic box office this last weekend in 2013? Perhaps he can expose what makes “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” so mysterious. Or take a closer look at what makes “The Wolf of Wall Street” so darn greedy. Our heroic “Hobbit: ( can finally ditch) The Desolation of Smaug” for a pleasant and profitable journey leading straight into the new year. It still being the holiday season, perhaps the troupe experiencing the “American Hustle” will slow down and enjoy a more contemporary tale. If hot cocoa and home-baked cookies find them in a family-friendly mood, they can assist in “Saving Mr. Banks” from miserly sorts and “Frozen,” but friendly hearts from a winter that just won’t end. We can hope (in vain) for the end of family trauma during a visit in “August: (to) Osage County.” Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts as mother and daughter duo? Bring on the trauma and the drama!
Comedy and corruption, animated friends and family feuds, anchorman and August (even though it’s technically still December), Hanks, hobbits and hustlers; the imagination knows no bounds on the big screen brimming with the brightest stars.
From seaside days to starry nights, may this last weekend in 2013 but just the beginning of all the great tales to come…
