Riding through an Awesomely Awkward Super Movie Weekend

Audiences continued to travel down that same comedic circuit while enjoying the cinematic view during the “Ride Along,” ending their destination (once again) at the #1 corner with $12.3 million. Our big screens are still surreally and appropriately “Frozen” this frosty time of year, with our animated buddies finding warmth from the #2 position with $9.3 million (thanks in part to their newly-released sing-along version, finding a home in over 2,000 theaters this weekend). Feeling ill at ease this winter weekend? Has reality left you with an uncomfortable feeling while sending you in search of relaxing escapist entertainment? Moviegoers were escaping while experiencing “That Awkward Moment,” sending the R-rated romantic comedy to the less-than-awkward #3 spot at the domestic box office with $9 million. “The Nut Job” found $7.6 million worth of nuts at the # 4 spot. The “Lone Survivor” was surviving (and still thriving) from the #5 location with $7.2 million.
The dating world collided with Disney terrain, (friendly) crusades were fought on frosty fields, life was found on lonely war zones, while bumbling bachelors battled singing sisters. Bromances and beautiful animation made the most magnificent music fit for Labor Day, lazy nights and beyond.
Super Bowl Weekend met its match on our Super Cinematic playing field!
From seaside days to starry nights, may the week ahead be entertainingly frosty and more awesome than awkward…
