Timeless Tales

Pablo Picasso once said, “Youth has no age.” The youthful, however, were invading movie theaters far and wide this weekend, as animation and ageless adaptations were happily pleasing the movie masses.
The teenage sci-fi drama “Divergent” was redirecting the minds of moviegoers from spring activities, as the latest in a long line of youthful tales took over the #1 spot at the domestic box office with $56 franchise-starting million. Appealing to an even younger demographic, Kermit and company sent the also-new Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” to the coveted and colorful county of #2 with $16.5 million. “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” traveled back in time (and the box-office line) this weekend, arriving at the #3 play land with $11.7 million. Counting their cinematic gains, the crew from “300: Rise of an Empire” was keeping the movie kingdom dwellers company at the #4 realm with $8.7 million. Movie lovers discovered “God’s Not Dead” in the Hollywood realm, giving him a lively home (in just 780 theaters) at #5 with $8.6 million.
Animation and young adult adaptations battled the aged, inspiration abounded and Greek Gods grew older in empires residing on somewhat-shaky territory.
From seaside days to starry nights, the territory where the greatest tales are being told promises entertainment fit for all ages…
