Living on the Edge

With summer balancing on the “Edge of Tomorrow,” Tom Cruise and his co-stars are pulling out all the movie stops, declaring “The Fault in our Stars” lies in the fact that too many of our starry celebs have jumped on the alien-battle bandwagon, increasing the extraterrestrial competition. Reaching a younger, anti-alien market, the villainous “Maleficent” remains her mean self, with Sleeping Beauty resting on the highest throne following last week’s debut. How far into the future will they maintain their magnificence? What about those popular mutant’s prospect? Will the “X-Men-Days of Future Past” soon be crossing their crowd-pleasing days off that all-important cinematic calendar? With so many blockbusters and “Blended” forms of fabulous films heading to town, will our favorite “Neighbors” be kicked to the curb? Our tall but tender-at-heart “Godzilla,” meanwhile, seems to be lightening up, stomping on fewer and fewer audiences as he heads toward that sequel-loving horizon. Less successfully heading toward that western (Hollywood-hanging) sunset, there lingers “A Million Ways to Die in the West” and countless ways to awesome entertainment.
Looking for grand entertainment this coming weekend? Let me count the motion picture ways….
