Stepping up at the Movies

Will the “Planes: Fire & Rescue” team do their high-flying part to rescue moviegoers from sunburn and sorry stories while instructing those cinematic smarty pants on “How to Train Your Dragon 2” step aside for some animated aeronautics? Audiences certainly weren’t sorry witnessing the “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” as the chimps were spotted profitably soaring at the box office last weekend. Following one bitter disappointment after another, “Tammy” seems to have found some success in the reel world among the most creative characters. How long will her victory last? The always victorious “Transformers: Age of Extinction” are clearly survivors in the battle against evil entities and previous summer sensations. As summer heats up, might their age of extinction be closer than they think? Will the unfortunate release of the Hollywood-inspired “Sex Tape,” as well as the horrors experienced during “The Purge: Anarchy,” send our more modest, PG-seeking viewers on a freaked-out detour from the R-rated movie vicinity?
Then there are the sensational-in-their-own-way boys wandering along “22 Jump Street.” Surely their time on that coveted Hollywood corner will soon be coming to an end.
No matter which rung they cling to on the box-office ladder, each imaginary being can be heard shouting, “Deliver Us From Evil,” which would naturally be that last, lowliest step.
What movie will have you stepping out this weekend?
