Hollywood’s Horrors and Heavenly Delights

Following their dramatic rise to the top, the “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” managed to maintain that top spot at the domestic box office once again with $36 million. Audiences wishing to rid themselves of ape-like issues sent “The Purge: Anarchy” to the chaotic corner of #2 with $28.4 horrifying million. Our PG-rated “Planes: Fire & Rescue” team arrived to save family-friendly seekers from video terrors (see #4), landing innocently at the #3 spot with $18 million. Those clamoring for comedy viewed the unfortunate “Sex Tape” from the personal space of #4 with $15 million. The “Transformers: Age of Extinction” changed the neighborhood of #5 with $10 ageless million.
Timeless entertainment on earthly terrain was occurring this summer weekend, with horror and Hollywood-inspired videos providing their own personal blend of the “ick” factor. The apes and the animated beings made for strange neighbors as the toy-based Transformers were slowly coming to terms with their box-office mortality.
Happily, all of our imaginary friends were enduring their 15 minutes (and then some) of fame quite nicely.
Which of our imaginary tales will endure the longest?
