A Rollercoaster Movie Ride

Moviegoers were enjoying the cinematic ride this weekend, as the new kids in town kicked the apes, anarchists and animated cuties to the curb (but, fortunately, not out of the box-office race)…
“Lucy” did her warrior best to knock out the competition, ultimately finding her source of power at the top spot at the domestic box office this weekend with $44 million. Not so hot on her high heels, “Hercules” found revenge and rewards waiting at the #2 place with $29 million. After two weeks rising through the movie ranks in sunny Tinseltown, the “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” may not be soaring, but they’re still somewhat scoring with moviegoers, despite taking two steps down to the #3 land with $16.3 million.
“The Purge: Anarchy” let horrifying loose at the frightening #4 position with $9.9 million. Those cute and colorful “Planes: Fire & Rescue” guys provided the family entertainment, landing at the #5 grounds with $9.3 million.
A Greek God and a girl with superpowers ruled the high Hollywood court this entertaining weekend, horror continued to hold the attention of the scare-loving set and the apes overshadowed animation as our expanding cast continued to rise and (for some) fall. For movie lovers, a thrilling time was most certainly had by all!
What story created the greatest ups and downs this weekend?
