Everyone loves the comeback kid, apparently, even when he’s hidden beneath a hard shell. Thirty years after their starry introduction, our infamous and ageless “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” didn’t look a day older from the nostalgia-welcoming top spot at the domestic box office this weekend with $65 million. The “Guardians of the Galaxy” proved to be the perfect protectors from the spacious #2 spot with $41.5 million. Moviegoers courageously traveled “Into the Storm,” finding the weather (and the edge-of-your-seat entertainment) just right at the #3 terrain with $18 million. “The One-Hundred Foot Journey” satisfied even finicky movie lovers, happily ending at the #4 land with $11.1 million. Brainy “Lucy” loved the climate from the breezy locale of # 4 with $9.3 million.
Within our guarded galaxy (a.k.a. local movie theaters), teen turtles and a lovely lady named Lucy traveled that long, appetizing journey through a cinematically stormy landscape, ironically finding the view both pleasant and picturesque (despite the abovementioned tempestuous conditions). Our cool cast was caught breezing through summer, hoping to find their profitable pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, better known as the box-office finish line.
