Got the winter blues? Is your world currently lacking color during this grey season? Audiences were counting “Fifty Shades of Grey” and finding the results profitably colorful this weekend for lovers, sending the sizzling story to the top spot at the domestic box office with $81.7 million. The “Kingsman: The Secret Service” was revealing the secret to movie success from the #2 place with $35.6 million. On a watery but more family-friendly terrain, “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge out of Water” found a land-loving home at the #3 position with $30.5 million. Our “American Sniper” took a few steps down this weekend, allowing the romantics (and his spongy rival) to steal his thunder from the #4 zone with $16.4 million. A romantic in her own right, “Jupiter (found herself) Ascending” to the #5 locale with $9.4 million.
Shades of the cinematic rainbow appeared on the big screen, as a patriotic sniper, a celestial being, spies and a sponge named Bob all made for a sweet (in their own way) weekend at the movies. A sexy billionaire, however, found the brightest colors waiting in his long-anticipated arrival to the spotlight.
Which of our stories told the sweetest tale for you this tenderhearted weekend?
