The Revenant Takes on Winter Storm Jonas

Stranded on the side of a blustery frontier no more, The Revenant was once again racking up the accolades, briefly putting revenge aside to enjoy Award Season and his first week as Box Office Numero Uno (telling winter storm Jonas to take a hike). Award-winning Star Wars: The Force Awakens promoted feelings of warmth and cozy nostalgia among generations of moviegoers (who weren’t snowed in, that is). Ride Along 2 continued on the scenic, albeit for some snowy path to sequel success, graciously taking up less street space than opening weekend while paving the road for the rest of the movie crew.

Dirty Grandpa was having anything but clean fun on a pre-wedding adventure, stopping long enough to make the acquaintance of The Boy, wisely surmising its best to keep creepy characters close.

There were many close calls this weekend on that road to box-office glory (with Florida being a warm and welcome locale). A stopover at an isolated English village made for the most horrific (but blessedly brief) locale, Grandparents Day took on a whole new meaning, the wildness possessed many wonders (most specifically Leonardo DiCaprio) and those glorious Stars, naturally, continued to brilliantly light the way.

Where did that shining light lead you this starry weekend?

Estimated Domestic Box Office Results:

  1. The Revenant $16 million.
  2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens $14.5million.
  3. Ride Along 2 $12.9 million.
  4. Dirty Grandpa $11.5 million.
  5. The Boy $11.2 million.
