With so much “hero worship” taking over our big screens, it’s nice to know that Captain America: Civil War, while certainly home to the biggest, albeit most entertainingly argumentative boys, is happily not the only game in movie town. Our larger-than-life world is giving us an embarrassment of riches this weekend, with that greedy Money Monster making a bit of room for The Nice Guys, who ironically aren’t all that nice, but at least they’re not hijacking live television shows in 1970s Los Angeles.
The generous, timeless cast of The Jungle Book is making room for The Angry Birds Movie, which showcases our nice-in-their-own-hostile-way feathered friends with the outcasts as the ultimate heroes.
Then there’s the ultimate outsiders contending with their Neighbors 2: (forming a Sorority Rising), determined folk they are, ready to class up the neighborhood with their own brand of colorful humor.
With all of this colorful entertainment currently gracing our screens, is Mother’s Day so last week? Will The Darkness be obliterated by the glow of all this star power?
Can nice guys coexist with noisy neighbors? Will monsters obliterate mothers? Is there room in the animated forest for characters of all kinds? Can horror ever really compete with heroes?
So many choices! Which of our competitive tales will you make room for this weekend?
