Mutants were once again in the driver’s seat this cinematic weekend, but in a much different form, as our favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: (jumped) Out of the Shadows and into the air-conditioned shade within the most crowded movie theaters coast to coast. Taking one step down, X-Men: Apocalypse saw no end to their mutant machinations while the more self-serving, yet romantic among us were shouting, Me Before You to those standing behind them in the concession stand lines. Following in those self-absorbed steps, the always-gracious Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass witnessed a clear, Disney-inspired view (not as bright as she would have liked) as a bright light followed The Angry Birds Movie, which took a bit of a dive in light of all that turtle worship but was still flying high among those G-rated groupies.
As the mutants found their place, audiences were treated to stories of wonder, filled with shadows and strange beings, romance and rising stars (and a few animated birds thrown in for variety).
Which of our variety of stars do you think had the biggest rise in movie theaters this weekend?
