A Holiday Movie Break

During this long holiday weekend, hard labor prevails despite a cool down on the big screen. With no major openings, can we expect two-time champion THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD to take out both the competition and the coastal travelers (while eliminating that annoying holiday traffic?) Might the WIND RIVER blow in a new, even more mysterious direction? ANNABELLE: CREATION clearly should be creating the perfect getaway (while perfecting that whole getting-away-with-murder-because-you’re-a-doll thing).
On a less murderous front, what can audiences expect during the inevitable LEAP! from summer’s hot stories to autumnal delights? With the gradual change in cinematic seasons, how much longer will LOGAN (be) LUCKY?
Clearly, ALL SAINTS and no sinners make for a dull season. Fortunately, we can expect the month of September to usher in those obligatory saintly characters taking on those much-needed sinful creatures.
Who will prevail?

The Last of the Summer Hit’s

Summer is ready for the ultimate eclipse as it takes its cue from the calendar and heads for the horizon. Still traveling at optimum level, THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD sheltered moviegoers from sunburns and the sinister among us, included the hair-raising ANNABELLE: CREATION, who refuses to bow out gracefully. The most graceful orphans took a LEAP! into movie theaters, soaring above their less jumpy competition. LOGAN LUCKY, meanwhile, continued to jump in the most fortuitous fashion in the path of WIND RIVER, which blew through town to solve the latest cinematic crime.
The hits kept coming, a doll kept killing and orphans were living the dream while a lucky streak continued on that winding road to success
Which of our successful tales made for one lucky weekend for you?

Estimated Domestic Box Office Results:

1. The Hitman’s Bodyguard $10.1 million.
2. Annabelle: Creation $7.4 million.
3. Leap! $5.0 million.
4. Wind River $4.4 million.
5. Logan Lucky $4.4 million.

Leaping Through the Dwindling Days of Summer

Summer days (and the blockbusters they inspire) are sadly dwindling but happily our summer stars continue to shine. Beneath that sparkling sky, will THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD, ever the protector, be taking out summer’s chartbusters and safely ushering in autumn’s delights? Steering clear of that “hit,” might the far-from-delightful ANNABELLE: CREATION destroy anyone in her devious, doll-faced path?
Following their own tricky path, the colorful crew of NUT JOB 2: NUTTY BY NATURE is still on the scene, playing the role of colorful cuties competing in a crazy world (see characters above). Do they have what it takes to shine? Meanwhile, cute-in-a-totally-different way, LOGAN (is hoping to continue his) LUCKY streak. How much longer will he be blessing us with his prosperous presence? Will the boys of DUNKIRK continue on their fortuitous path to war-torn stardom? Might our current characters graciously usher in the dawn of a new movie day alongside the BIRTH OF THE DRAGON?
ALL SAINTS (and more than a few sinners) agree, you don’t want to miss out!
Are you ready to take that starry, flying LEAP! into a movie theater near you?

Summer’s Hits

THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD hit it off his first weekend in town, bravely protecting moviegoers from criminals and criminally lame stories. LOGAN LUCKY found his fortune on the big screen while a cursed as opposed to blessed ANNABELLE: CREATION once again was all dolled up and “dressed for cinematic success.” DUNKIRK was still trudging along, bravely fighting that decades-long battle. Fighting their own family-friendly battle, the cast of THE NUT JOB 2: NUTTY BY NATURE fulfilled the task of lightening up the movie landscape.
Animation, action and comedy blended to form late summer hits, a deadly doll had audiences on the edge of their seats as our summer soldiers guarding their turf on the search for cinematic peace.
Which of our well-guarded tales brought a bit of harmony to your weekend?

Estimated Domestic Box Office Results:
1. The Hitman’s Bodyguard $21.6 million.
2. Annabelle: Creation $15.5 million.
3. Logan Lucky $8.1 million.
4. Dunkirk $6.7 million.
5. The Nut Job: Nutty by Nature $5.1 million.

Who Gets Lucky this Weekend?

A dollmaker created quite an unsettling stir last weekend among horror lovers courtesy of ANNABELLE: CREATION. What kind of havoc will she be crafting this weekend? Might imaginative THE NUT JOB 2: NUTTY BY NATURE find success (and sanity) among audiences searching for a port in the cinematic storm? Not if those controlling THE DARK TOWER can help it, as Matthew McConaughey stands guard on his movie turf. The boys of DUNKIRK, meanwhile, are always on guard, but has their ship sailed?
Content within their female-driven territory, will the ladies taking that long and winding GIRLS’ TRIP ever find their way back home? Are they having too much fun to care?
Fortunately, THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD is soon to make an appearance to keep moviegoers safe from all that chaotic action currently occurring on the big screen. How big of a hit will that be?
Will LOGAN (be) LUCKY and pull off the ultimate movie heist, shamelessly stealing from his, if he has anything to say about it, “less” fortunate competition?
Aren’t we fortunate to have a front-row seat?

A Creepy Creation Kills the Competition

ANNABELLE: CREATION created a unique horror, scaring the bejesus out of the biggest audience at the domestic box office this weekend. Living within their own nightmare, the beleaguered DUNKIRK boys continued to intrigue the troops. On a more wholesome level, THE NUT JOB 2: NUTTY BY NATURE offered colorful fun despite THE DARK TOWER ominously looming over our endangered movie community. Audiences looking for a lighter diversion were spotted cruising around courtesy of a well-spent GIRLS’ TRIP.
Movie lovers witnessed a war-torn world comprised of a devious doll, determined squirrels and feisty females all living in a dark but delightfully entertaining tower only Hollywood could inspire!
Which of our delightful tales inspired you this weekend?

Estimated Domestic Box Office Results:
1. Annabelle: Creation $35 million.
2. Dunkirk $11.4 million.
3. The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature $8.5 million.
4. The Dark Tower $7.8 million.
5. Girls’ Trip $6.5 million.

A Nutty Castle Creation

A DARK TOWER loomed over the movie universe last weekend, casting Matthew McConaughey in a successful cinematic light. Will the competition once again be swallowed up by its star-powered shadow or will they follow the (sun)light surrounding our summer blockbusters? Might our “less-dark” stars be forced to KIPNAP their shady, cinematic foes?
Perhaps a GIRLS’ TRIP is what’s needed to lighten things up with a crowded stopover to THE GLASS CASTLE, sure to make a dysfunctional family’s dream come true.
Of course, if a nightmare is more to your liking, be sure to check out ANNABELLE: (and her) CREATION, which is sitting in a horrifying tower of its own.
Moving on to animated, family-friendly territory, the NUT JOB 2: NUTTY BY NATURE is hoping to find the natives friendly. Hopefully they’ll get a warmer welcome than the emotional characters cruising through THE EMOJI MOVIE, which made some of us laugh and cry while leaving others unmoved by their plight. Will they be moving even farther down the box-office line? Who will get the most love? Will it be those well-deserving boys of DUNKIRK, who could certainly use some affection after all they’ve been through?
Which of our emotional stories will you be feeling the love for this weekend?
