Darkness Towers Above Them All

THE DARK TOWER shadowed over its competition, finding the brightest light at the end of the box-office tunnel. Still tunneling through movie town, DUNKIRK continued to get the job done as he battled the boys (and girls) of summer. Speaking of the ladies, a GIRLS’ TRIP lightened up the movie landscape with its character-driven camaraderie. Solidarity abounded in THE EMOJI MOVIE, which offered a G-rated, emotion-filled adventure. Stealing a bit of that thunder, moviegoers were on the edge of their seats experiencing a KIDNAP courtesy of Halle Berry.
Friends and foes filled our movie theaters this first weekend in August as Matthew McConaughey showed up to save our dark world, the WWII battle showed no signs of ending, the girls were still going wild and animation remained emotional as moviegoers were held captive by all those big-screen adventures.
Which of our adventurous stories captured your attention this weekend?

Estimated Domestic Box Office Results:

2. Dunkirk $17.6 million.
