2017’s Cinematic Swan Song

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI found the stars of 2017 quite successful, sending them soaring through those starry skies to a happy future (i.e. sequel). Happily in the present moment, JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE once again received a warm greeting while those PITCH PERFECT 3 girls discovered harmony at every turn. Turning on a different note, THE GREATEST SHOWMAN was having the greatest time celebrating the almost New Year, leaving an entertaining space for FERDINAND, who was happily at home in our local movie theaters.
Happiness abounded on the big screen, with the stars, naturally, taking up the biggest cinematic space. Although it was a jungle “out there,” music filled the air, each show was greater than the last and we learned, once again, home is where the heart is!
As we usher in a brand new year, which of our tales captured your heart?

Estimated Domestic Box Office Results:
1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi $52.4 million.
2. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle $50.6 million.
3. Pitch Perfect 3 $17.8 million.
4. The Greatest Showman $15.3 million.
5. Ferdinand $11.7 million.

2017’s Last Cinematic Word

As Santa makes his graceful exit to his northern home, is there any magic still waiting to be discovered in 2017? While FERDINAND does his part to make us feel like a kid again, will reigning champ STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, get the final say on what makes a (movie) year great (i.e. record breaking?)
Will we start the new year in unfamiliar territory or might JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE makes us feel imaginatively at home?
Perhaps THE GREATEST SHOWMAN will usher us into 2018 with the greatest show, with a melodic assist, naturally, from the girls performing their PITCH PERFECT 3, which promises three times the amount of entertainment. MOLLY’S GAME, meanwhile, offers an interesting diversion from all that melody. Will audiences be game?
Of course, with the hustle and bustle of the season over, maybe we’re in for a DOWNSIZING, which promises to open new possibilities for movie lovers everywhere.
Is there a better way to end the year than at your local movie theater?
I wouldn’t miss it for ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD!
Would you?

Santa’s Cinematic Delights

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI was once again first on Santa’s Nice List, who gifted those star seekers with the top spot at the domestic box office. Also receiving the warmest of holiday greetings, JUMANJI: (was) WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE, where survival of the fittest made for one well-rounded tale.
It was a PITCH PERFECT 3 for our favorite female songstresses, sweetly leading the way for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, who perfectly complemented their tune. FERDINAND, meanwhile, delighted those happily waiting for Santa (who carried a different tune in their hearts).
It was a heartfelt weekend at the movies (despite a few grinches in sight), as all of our characters, both naughty and nice, had the merriest of times hanging out on the big screen.
Which of our merry tales was worth hanging out with for you this weekend?

Estimated Domestic Box Office Results:
1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi $68.5 million.
2. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle $34 million.
3. Pitch Perfect 3 $20.5 million.
4. The Greatest Showman $8.6 million.
5. Ferdinand $7.1 million.

A Starry Santa-Approved Weekend

With STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI invading our movie skies in a really big way (while competing with Santa Claus for the most attention) what will be the biggest WONDER to behold at our local movie theaters? Will it be the JUSTICE LEAGUE, who is most certainly on the Nice List? Will FERDINAND and COCO be battling the Man in Red for the attention of our littlest moviegoers?
Perhaps THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, as the title suggests, will tell the greatest tale, DOWNSIZING the, he hopes, less-than-great competition. FATHER FIGURES are sure to want to catch that show!
Maybe PITCH PERFECT 3 will grab our attention as they sing the perfect song alongside the sounds of sleigh bells.
Of course, those not into the whole song-and-dance routine might prefer a getaway this long holiday weekend courtesy of JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE. Can they expect a welcome bigger than Santa’s?
Naturally, whichever tale takes you away from family festivities, you’re sure to feel welcomed at your neighborhood (Santa-approved) movie theater!

The Stars Align And Annihilate

Where would we be without the stars, guiding the way to the most entertaining weekend (and much-needed shopping break?)
The breakout star this weekend, to the surprise of absolutely no one, was STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI who landed in first place by lighting the cinematic skies with its own brand of celestial beings. On solid albeit animated ground, FERDINAND found success while COCO politely stepped aside, both offering family-friendly fun. Those WONDER-ful folks were still having loads of fun as the JUSTICE LEAGUE gallantly rounded out the Box Office Top Five.
Around our movie parts, the stars exploded and animation arrived in glorious color, illuminating a wonder to behold. Justice, as always, was entertainingly served.
Did the stars lead the way to an illuminating weekend for you?

Estimated Domestic Box Office Results:
1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi $220 million.
2. Ferdinand $13.3 million.
3. Coco $10 million.
4. Wonder $5.4 million.
5. Justice League $4.2 million.

The Stars Prepare to Shine

“Only in the darkness can you see the stars.” Martin Luther King

With the color of the season sure to block out any threatening darkness, will COCO remain the liveliest animated thing going or will FERDINAND burst onto the scene and steal her thunder? Will the thunder stop rumbling around volatile THOR: RAGNAROK, casting a glow on WONDER while finding the meaning of it all thanks to that oh-so-smart JUSTICE LEAGUE?
Perhaps THE DISASTER ARTIST will perform to a sold-out audience (who clearly love a catastrophe in its most creative stages).
Of course, a little film called STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI may get the last warring word as well as first place in the hearts of starry-eyed moviegoers, who wisely subscribe to the notion that stars shine their brightest in the darkness (naturally provided by their local movie theater).
Will there by stars in your eyes this weekend?

Coco Continues to Crash the Christmas Celebration

COCO was still counting her many (profitable) blessings this weekend at the movies, rivaling the holiday décor for the most festive of sights. Audiences were once again checking out the justifiable sights courtesy of JUSTICE LEAGUE while the “wonder” of the season was experienced in one WONDER-filled film.
The still wonderful THOR: RAGNAROK remained a hero to all, inspiring THE DISASTER ARTIST to create his own artistic creation.
The holidays created the perfect backdrop for a jolly good time at our local movie theaters. Coco was cool, justice was served and Thor was satisfying. Wonder was a work of art while an artist was in a disastrous class of his own.
Which of our classy stories was a satisfying wonder to behold for you this weekend?

Estimated Domestic Box Office Results:
1. Coco $19 million.
2. Justice League $9.6 million.
3. Wonder $8.5 million.
4. The Disaster Artist $6.4 million.
5. Thor: Ragnarok $6.3million.
