A Sweet Cinematic Start

The year started on a familiar note, as Aquaman floated profitably through 2018 into a brand-new year, sailing on the most successful seas. The Escape Room provided an escape from post-holiday blues. Taking a dip but still sailing along quite nicely, Mary Poppins Returns again, beautifully blending melancholy and modern.  Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse traveled into 2019, inviting his fans on a pre-Christmas adventure while Bumblebee celebrated his success in 1987 and 2019.
The new year looked strangely like the old one (with one horrifying escape added into the mix), as our holiday favorites discovered you can go home again (thank you, Mary Poppins), finding old friends and new fans along the way.
Which of our “friendly” tales did you discover this weekend?

Estimated Domestic Box Office Results:
1. Aquaman $30.7 million.
2. Escape Room $18 million.
3. Mary Poppins Returns $15.7 million.
4. Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse $13 million.
5. Bumblebee $12.7 million.
